Identifying opportunities and designing the means to compete is at the heart of great brands. So often, consumers or other organisations are often left confused, under-whelmed or simply neutral about a business or its product or service offering.
Metaphorically as brand identity consultants we liken ourselves as the "midwives to an idea" in the birth of a brand identity. Very often, names, positioning lines and even logo are assembled prior to any marketing plan, business strategy or business process. As a result, the potential of any new brand is already significantly diminished. Ironically at a time when its freshness and its audience are at their most opportune.
There are many reasons for this. But above all, designing a new brand takes simplicity, objectivity, sophisticated process and a solid dash of common sense. The paradox is that for many businesses, brand identity development happens at a time of great pressure and investment. In the stress that often accompanies change - brands are born like children. And like it or not, we are stuck with them.
